father said he chose to settle in Mecca because it reminded him of the ranch where
he lived. I remember there was nothing in Mecca in 1978. There was just Leon's
market and 6 streets. Surrounding Mecca were fields of citrus and grapes. Every
year we would migrate to Gilroy and Fresno and so the ages of when we were all
working varied.”
